join our rookie intake
Interested in giving Roller Derby a try? We’d love to have you!
Our Rookie scheme is for people of all abilities who are curious about roller derby and want to give it a go.
We work with you, so you can learn at your own pace and move up to our main league training sessions as soon as you are ready.
Our coaches are experienced in helping at all skill and fitness levels. It doesn’t matter if you have been on skates since childhood, or have never been on skates before. We are here to show you the basics and, in time, train you to become the next ARDL team skater!
how it works
We run a 10 week Rookie intake between 1-3 times a year. In this course you’ll learn the basic skating skills you’ll need to become a roller derby star. We focus on safety, so your first few lessons will be all about how to fall and stop safely, then we’ll build up from there.
You will not need your own skates or safety gear. We provide our Rookies with second hand safety gear and skates.
Our intakes for 2019 are all done and dusted! The next intake will start in February 2020:
Start date: 3 February, 2020
End date: 6 April, 2020
Training is every Monday, 7pm - 9pm (Please arrive at 6.45pm)
Cost: $10 per session
Venue: Glenfield ActivZone, 30 Downing St, Glenfield
The course runs for 10 week and covers all minimum skating skills under WFTDA (Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby Association).
2020 too far away? Join our Non-Skating Officials (NSO) team and get a head-start! Being an NSO is a great way to learn how derby works and get involved in the community. Get in touch with us today to see how you can get involved early.
Are you coming our way and wish to visit or transfer? ARDL loves to hang out with other skaters! Contact us through our contact page or on Facebook and let us know more about you and your skating experience.
